POLEGROVE BOWLS CLUB – INFO FOR NEW MEMBERS

MEMBERSHIP COST
Membership is £180 pa. This can be paid as one payment or monthly. New members joining during the year pay a proportionate rate, reflecting the month of joining. The membership fee includes unlimited use of the greens, subject to availability.
The outdoor bowling season runs from the end of April until the end of September.
Members will be notified of the actual start date as this will be weather dependent.
Tuition and advice is available for anyone who is new to bowls. When you first start, there will be bowls available for you to borrow (on request) until you are able to buy your own.

DRESS CODE
If you are taking part in club competitions or matches against other clubs,the Polegrove club kit must be worn.
Polegrove polo shirts are available from the kit manager at a cost of £27 each. Trousers or shorts (royal blue) are available on line from stockists of bowls clothing such as Henselite or Aceit.
For Club afternoons you should wear the club kit. Initially you can wear any white top and blue or grey trousers until you are able to buy the kit.
For casual roll ups – any appropriate clothing
Flat soled shoes must be worn on the greens at all times.

LOCKERS
Lockers are available in both the mens and ladies changing rooms, if you wish to use one to store your bowls. You will need to provide your own padlock for the locker.

SOCIAL EVENTS
We have regular monthly quizzes and other social events and fundraising activities throughout the year. Details of each event will be emailed to all members.

CLUB AFTERNOONS & ROLL UPS
We have a regular club afternoon every Friday afternoon at a cost of £2. You need to arrive by 1.45 and you will be allocated to a team. There is a break halfway through the afternoon for tea / coffee and biscuits. Tea is served by club members on a rota basis.
There are also informal roll ups every Tuesday & Thursday afternoon from 2pm. There is no need to book, but you need to arrive by 1.45 and sort yourself into groups for playing.
You can also come down for a roll up at any time, either by yourself or with other members. You will need to book a rink for this. Play can be any time from 10am.
You can pay for club afternoons and home matches by tokens which can be purchased in bulk from the treasurer.

MATCHES AND COMPETITIONS
Throughout the season we play a number of friendly matches against other clubs. Dates will be publicized for members to put their name down. Anyone can put their name down to play, however experienced or inexperienced. It is a good way to practice and learn more about bowls. Like club afternoons, there is a break halfway through the afternoon for tea/coffee and biscuits. The cost of £2 for playing in home matches, but no fee for playing in away matches.
There are also several club competitions that anyone can take part in. These are knock out competitions with the finals being played at the beginning of September. Closing date for submitting entries is usually in May.
In October we have an awards dinner when all finalists of the club competitions are presented with their cups.
We also have several club members who play in County and national competitions.

TEA /COFFEE
Tea and coffee will be available in the pavilion if you want to make yourself a drink at any time, at a cost of £1.
